CBPMs could save NHS £4B

Potential of Medical Cannabis on NHS

Allowing CBPMs to be prescribed on the NHS for chronic pain could save the NHS almost £4B per annum, according to a study by York University, part-funded by Glass Pharms. We hope that NICE will review their study from 2019 which used assumptions of medicine cost which are not consistent with the current market.

James Duckenfield, CEO of Glass Pharms, “Despite medicinal cannabis being legalised in 2018, there are still only a few NHS patients receiving unlicensed cannabis-derived medicines. We hope that NICE will review the evidence from this Health Economic Analysis and adapt its guidance accordingly. Now is the time to expand the NHS offering to allow unlicensed cannabis medicines to be prescribed for chronic pain.”
